PTSD Test
An experience may be over while reminders of it still interrupt your life. You might have unwanted memories, avoid certain places, feel constantly on guard, or notice a distance between yourself and other people.
The Primary Care PTSD Screen for DSM-5, PC-PTSD-5, begins with a question about traumatic experiences. If it applies to you, you will then answer five yes-or-no questions about symptoms over the past month.
This self-check is intended for adults aged 18 and over. It can help you consider whether to discuss possible PTSD symptoms with a healthcare professional. It cannot provide a diagnosis.
Before you begin
The questions refer to traumatic events and may bring up difficult memories. You do not need to describe what happened. You can pause or leave the questionnaire at any time, and you can ask for support without completing it.
Complete the questionnaire for yourself. No name or email is required. The questionnaire does not send your answers or result to Village Therapy, and nobody monitors your responses.
Understanding your result
If you answer yes to the opening question, the result counts your yes answers to the five symptom questions. This self-check uses the threshold of three yes answers used by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' public PTSD self-screen.
Three or more yes answers suggest that further assessment may be helpful. The result does not mean that you have PTSD. Speak with your GP or a qualified mental health professional to explore your symptoms and what support may help.
A result below three does not rule out PTSD or other trauma-related difficulties. Screening thresholds vary with the population and purpose of assessment. This questionnaire does not separately assess complex PTSD or cover every way trauma can affect a person.
What if I answer no to the opening question?
The symptom questions will be skipped, and the screen will record zero according to its scoring rules. That result does not dismiss the impact of other stressful experiences or establish that you have no mental health difficulties.
If something is affecting your sleep, relationships, sense of safety, or daily life, you can seek support regardless of whether it fits the events described in this questionnaire.
Support at Village Therapy
You do not need to have a diagnosis before reaching out. A free introductory call can help you discuss what you are looking for and explore whether a therapist at Village Therapy is a suitable fit for your needs.
We offer therapy in central Copenhagen and online. The introductory call is a chance to explore support; it is not a diagnostic assessment or an urgent-response service.
If you need urgent help: Contact your GP or local urgent medical service. In immediate danger, call 112 in Denmark or your local emergency number. Do not wait for a response from this questionnaire.
