OCD Treatment Costs in Copenhagen: What to Expect

The cost of OCD treatment matters, especially when you’re considering regular appointments. It’s reasonable to want to know the session fee, whether insurance can help, and how much treatment might cost overall before you begin.

Some of those questions have straightforward answers. Others depend on the support you need and how treatment progresses.

How much does OCD treatment cost in Copenhagen?

Private therapy fees vary between practitioners. Check the therapist’s current price, the length of the appointment, and what’s included.

It’s also worth asking about their training and experience with exposure and response prevention, or ERP. A higher fee alone won’t tell you whether someone is a good fit for treating OCD.

You can find information about Village Therapy’s services and fees here.

What are you paying for?

In OCD therapy, we spend time understanding your symptoms, identifying compulsions, and planning how to work with them. That includes things other people might never see, such as mentally reviewing events, checking your feelings, or trying to convince yourself that a thought isn’t true.

With ERP, sessions involve planning and practising different responses to the situations and thoughts that trouble you. We also review what happens when you practise between appointments and adjust the work where needed.

Ask your therapist whether contact between sessions is available and whether it carries an additional fee. Having that clear from the start makes budgeting easier.

Can insurance cover OCD therapy?

Some private health, employer, or international insurance policies may cover treatment. You’ll need to check your particular policy before booking.

Ask your insurer:

  • Does my policy cover OCD treatment?

  • Does it cover this specific practitioner and their qualifications?

  • Do I need a doctor’s referral or approval before starting?

  • How many sessions are covered, and is there a limit on reimbursement?

  • Do I pay first and submit invoices, or does the insurer pay the provider directly?

Coverage for a psychologist may differ from coverage for a psychotherapist, so give the insurer the details of the person you intend to see.

Is publicly funded treatment available?

OCD treatment can be available through the Danish public healthcare system. Eligible adults with mild to moderate OCD may qualify for subsidised treatment with a psychologist who participates in the public reimbursement scheme, following a referral from their GP.

Depending on the severity and complexity of the difficulties, referral to psychiatric services may also be appropriate. Your GP can help you understand the options available to you.

A referral doesn’t automatically provide a subsidy for appointments with any private therapist. Check whether the practitioner accepts referrals under the scheme.

How many sessions will you need?

It’s difficult to give a useful estimate before understanding your symptoms and how much they affect your life. Some people need a shorter course of treatment; others need longer or more intensive support.

At the beginning, we can discuss an initial plan and when we’ll review it. Those reviews give us a chance to look at what’s changing, what remains difficult, and whether the approach needs adjusting.

Please bring up your budget too. If weekly appointments would be difficult to afford, that’s something we should know when discussing a realistic treatment plan.
