How Much Does Therapy for Anxiety Cost in Copenhagen?

When you’re considering therapy for anxiety, cost is usually one of the first questions. You need to know whether appointments fit your budget and what you might be committing to over time.

The session fee is part of that. It’s also worth checking whether you can get financial support and discussing how often you would meet.

What does private anxiety therapy cost?

Fees vary between therapists and practices in Copenhagen. Check the current price and appointment length with the person you’re considering.

You can find Village Therapy’s pricing information here. When comparing options, look at the practitioner’s qualifications, experience with anxiety, and how they approach therapy. Cost alone won’t tell you how well someone will suit your needs.

Ask what the fee includes, whether longer appointments cost more, and what happens if you need to cancel.

How much might treatment cost overall?

It’s difficult to estimate the total before discussing what you need help with. The frequency and number of appointments will depend on your difficulties, goals, and progress.

For example, at a session fee of 1,100 DKK, four appointments would cost 4,400 DKK. That’s a budgeting example, rather than an estimate of how many sessions you’ll need.

You can ask your therapist about an initial plan and agree on a point to review it. If your budget limits how often you can attend, bring that up early so you can discuss a realistic arrangement.

Can you get free or subsidised anxiety treatment in Denmark?

There are public options, but a doctor’s referral doesn’t automatically make private therapy free.

Eligible adults with mild to moderate anxiety may qualify for subsidised sessions with a psychologist who participates in the public reimbursement scheme. Other public treatment options may be available depending on your age, symptoms, and circumstances.

Your GP can help you understand which options apply to you. Before booking privately, check whether the practitioner accepts referrals under the scheme and what you would need to pay yourself.

Some international clients choose private therapy because they’re looking for a particular language, approach, or appointment time. You can weigh those preferences alongside the cost.

Will insurance pay for anxiety therapy?

Some employer, private health, or international insurance policies cover therapy. The details depend on your policy and the practitioner you want to see.

Before starting, ask your insurer whether they cover that specific practitioner, whether you need advance approval or a referral, and how many sessions they will pay for. Coverage for psychologists and psychotherapists can differ.

It’s also useful to know whether you’ll need to pay upfront and claim reimbursement afterwards.

Deciding whether to start

Therapy is a financial commitment, and it’s reasonable to think carefully about it. Consider how anxiety is affecting your life and what you want help changing. Perhaps you’re losing sleep, avoiding things you want to do, or spending much of your day worrying.

An initial conversation can help you understand what treatment might involve before deciding whether to proceed. You can ask about the approach, likely appointment frequency, and how you’ll review whether the work is helping.
