The Unified Protocol for emotional difficulties

If anxiety, low mood, or other intense emotions keep pulling you into the same pattern, it can help to work on how you respond to emotion itself. The Unified Protocol is a structured form of cognitive behavioral therapy that looks at patterns shared across emotional difficulties.

We might explore what emotions feel like in your body, the thoughts that come with them, and the things you do to escape or control them. You can then practise noticing emotions, responding more flexibly, and approaching situations you have been avoiding. Sessions are active, and there may be exercises to try between meetings.

The aim is not to stop having uncomfortable emotions. It is to make more room for them so they have less control over your choices. We can discuss whether this structured approach fits your goals.

**Next step:** Ask for a therapist trained in the Unified Protocol.
