Parts work

You might feel one part of you pushing hard for change while another part pulls back. One part wants closeness; another expects to get hurt. Parts work offers a way to get curious about these different responses instead of fighting yourself over them.

With your therapist, you can notice the thoughts, emotions, and body sensations associated with a particular part, and ask what it may be trying to protect. The work can draw on approaches such as Internal Family Systems (IFS) or Somatic Parts Work, depending on the clinician's training. You stay grounded in the present and decide what you want to explore.

This can be helpful when your reactions seem contradictory or stronger than the situation calls for. Understanding their history and purpose may make it easier to respond with choice rather than habit.
